Post Game Quotes - Dec. 3 vs. Toronto

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Toronto Maple Leafs at Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on tonight's game…

"I have to take responsibility for the way we played today. We knew how dynamic Toronto was offensively and we knew they could do damage off the rush. We were guilty of turning the puck over in the offensive zone and it lead to all the odd man breaks and chances."

Commenting on Toronto's third goal…
"We make it 2-1 and we're really coming on, and we knew Toronto was going to give us the odd man rushes. That is who they are. They're a hybrid team and they play on the move. We knew we were going to get the chances; we just couldn't give (Toronto) chances. They're very good off the rush. When you look at five of the six goals, they were all scored with us having the puck on our side of the red line."

Commenting on the team…
"We have too many players who are too big of minuses. We're trying to force things and it's ending up in our net. Good checking teams (manage the puck). We have to bump our head against the wall before we do it. Tonight, it was just careless."

Commenting on the play of the team…
"I don't have the whole group bought in to the way you have to play to win the National Hockey League. You have to be strong in certain areas."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes

Blue Jackets Left Wing Jason Chimera

Commenting on Toronto's first goal…

"Yeah, but still, he took the puck off of one of our sticks. Its just being aware of where people are, and just kind of, you know its one of those things where you've got to be aware where everyone else is on the ice and then doing the right things with the puck and then go from there."

Blue Jackets Center R.J. Umberger

Commenting on tonight's game...

"This is a team that we knew is dangerous offensively. You know they have the most shots in the league, and they have been playing well and for the most part we had our chances. We had 30 shots, but it was the type of shots we made, the odd man rushes, turnovers in our zone, and you know just putting it on their tape and it comes right back in our net."

Commenting on playing their ninth game in 15 days…
"Absolutely, I mean there is no excuse, you've got to still find a way. You know, find it and keep working. There's no excuses, everybody has a tough schedule you know its not just like its us, it's everybody, you know, and we're at home we're not the only ones traveling and they made us look like the road team in the first period."

Toronto Maple Leafs Quotes

Toronto Maple Leafs Head Coach Ron Wilson

Commenting on tonight's game…

"I thought we were as sloppy as we could possibly be defensively. Thank God Joey MacDonald made a couple of huge saves or he was big enough that they missed the net. They had some two-on-one's. Our power play wasn't very good at all tonight. In fact, I think they had more scoring chances killing penalties than we had on our power play. We still won. We are feeling a lot better about ourselves right now. It was nice to see Joey continue to play well like he did the other night."

Toronto Maple Leafs Goalie Joey MacDonald

Commenting on tonight's game…

"I felt pretty good. They had a few odd man rushes and you have to come up with those saves. That's what my job is, to make the big save at the right time. Tonight we put the puck in the net. When you score five or six goals you should win the hockey game. I thought we battled for 60 (minutes)."

Toronto Maple Leafs Left Wing Jason Blake

Commenting on tonight's game…

"The biggest thing we tried to do was keep it simple and just work hard and keep it simple. Grabo (Mikhail Grabovski) made a couple of great passes out there and fortunately they ended up in the back of the net."
