Post Game Quotes - Dec. 13, 2008

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

New York Islanders at Columbus Blue Jackets

December 13, 2008 – Nationwide Arena

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on tonight's game…
"The nice part for us was we got goals from support players. We got a great goal from (Andrew) Murray. When your top six aren't collectively scoring, it magnifies everything."

Commenting on the start of the third period…
"We had a good start to the third. When it was 2-0, we had three cracks to make it 3-0 on that power play and if we get one, it's probably game over. We played sound and we played hard."

Commenting on defensemen…
"We're very competitive. What we lack in top end skill, we more than make up for with competitiveness. The biggest difference for us is the improvement in (defenseman Kris) Russell. Russell allows us to have transition that we’ve not had for a little while here. Our top fours guys, all four are really, really competitive."

Commenting on Jason Chimera's goal…
"He scored on a breakaway… there will be glee in the Chimer household tonight."

Columbus Blue Jackets Player Quotes
Blue Jackets Left Wing Jason Chimera
Commenting on the team's play the last two home games…
"We've been playing well other than that Los Angeles game. You can kind of throw that one out. We just have to keep playing well, the wins will come, the goals will come, and it's just a matter of time before we can start getting some wins."

Commenting on continuing the winning streak…
"Just win each game. At the end of the streak, I can tell you how hot it was. Just keep on winning. Every game is important. If we keep playing the way we are, we got a good chance to win every night."

Blue Jackets Goalie Steve Mason
Commenting on back-to-back wins…
It's definitely nice, but we have to keep going. Tomorrow's another big game for us, and hopefully we can come away with two points."

Commenting on the number of consecutive wins until the team is "riding high"…
"Until we're in the playoffs. Until that, nothing's good enough. This team, we have to make the playoffs. Right now we're not in that playoff picture, so every game is important for us."

Blue Jackets Center Andrew Murray
Commenting on tonight's game…
"It was nice to get a two-goal lead. The Islanders were pressing a little bit. It's just a matter of our line working hard down low."

Commenting on winning at home and using that momentum to win on the road…
"We're getting the home-ice advantage and taking advantage of that. Now we just have to build off the momentum of these last two games and hopefully come out with a little bit better effort on the road against Chicago who’s a tough opponent."

New York Islanders Head Coach Scott Gordon
Commenting on goal that was waved off…
"We thought it went in twice, but they couldn't check on the second one because they felt the goalie was pushed in to. I thought it might have gone in on the initial shot."

Commenting on tonight’s game…
"We obviously went through a tough stretch there when we didn't have any momentum and they built on it. They are a big fast team and they took advantage of the situation."

Commenting on Blue Jackets goaltender Steve Mason and Left Wing Rick Nash
"(Mason) obviously played a pretty good game for them. He made some big saves when he had to. It looked pretty good there when Berghenheim was going in alone there and I think it was Nash made a heck of a play. I think he used all 6'4" or 6'5" of him to break that one up."

New York Islanders Player Quotes
New York Islanders Left Wing Sean Bergenheim
Commenting on generating chances in tonight's game…
"It was pretty hard. They play the middle pretty well. Maybe we should have put the puck to the net a little more and create more traffic. In games like this, that's usually how you score."

Commenting on losing six-consecutive games…
"It's tough but we still gotta try to keep it positive and try to do the things that we know that works for us. We can't be too negative. We have to keep on going. We can't quit here."

New York Islanders Goaltender Joey MacDonald
Commenting on tonight's game…
"It was good to get in the game and I got a good feel for the puck. I felt good in there tonight; pucks were hitting me and not sneaking through. We just have to keep battling."

Commenting on winning battles in front of the net…
"We have to win those battles in front of the net. If we have to take a penalty and knock them over or break a stick on his stick, we've just got to win those battles."
