Post Game Quotes and Numbers - Mar. 15

by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

9:57 - The total ice time through 65 minutes of regulation and overtime for Bruins rookie Tyler Seguin. He spent every second at even strength and was virtually invisible in the third period. All it took for an impact was a tap on the shoulder from his coach, Claude Julien in the shootout. He made one subtle deke to the forehand and beat Steve Mason for the game-deciding goal in Boston's 3-2 win.

4 - Goal total this season for Blue Jackets defenseman Grant Clitsome, who tallied a power-play goal in the first period. The goal gave Columbus a 1-0 lead late into the first period and some much-needed momentum going to the dressing room. The total is a career-high for the rookie defenseman, who saw brief action with the Blue Jackets late last season. He has put up high-caliber numbers (4-14-18) in his 25 NHL games this year and is a threat each time shoots the puck.

31 - Saves tonight for Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask. Many of the stops were on scoring chances that caused an early trigger finger on the Nationwide Arena goal horn. He robbed Derick Brassard twice in the third period and made a highlight-reel save on Derek Dorsett when the Columbus winger had a wide-open glove side. He was 3-for-3 in the shootout and gave his club every chance to win the hockey game.

Post-Game Quotes

Blue Jackets Head Coach Scott Arniel
Commenting on tonight's game…

"(We're) as happy as you can be without getting two points. I said to the coaches that was one of our best games in probably two or three weeks. We did a good job with puck possession, we did a good job with our speed, didn't spend a lot of time in our end of the ice and really did a good job of funneling pucks to the net and hacking and whacking and getting second and third opportunities."

Commenting on the shootout…
"I don't imagine everybody is standing up or lining up to be one of the guys picked. It's been frustrating and an issue with this team. I've seen it at different levels in different years – when you're winning games, everybody is very confident going into (a shootout) both the goaltender and the shooters. When it's turned like it is now, everybody is gripping the sticks a little tighter and probably not thinking those positive thoughts like they usually do when we're winning them."

Blue Jackets Right Wing Scottie Upshall
Commenting on tonight's game…

"It was a game that was right there for us to get. I thought we did a lot of great things; Mase (Steve Mason) had a great game. I really thought we played a solid game against a great team and we just found a way to let one slip away."

Blue Jackets Goaltender Steve Mason
Commenting on tonight's game…
"It was a lot of good flow, there weren't a lot of whistles. Both teams had their opportunities and obviously they got the better of us in the shootout."

Boston Bruins Head Coach Claude Julien
Commenting on tonight's game…

"The first half of the game was one that we're grinding it out and not really being on top of our game. I thought the second half of the second period we started controlling the puck a little better and hanging onto it in the offensive zone. It was nice to see that even though they took the lead in the third. We found a way to get back into it. It was a big goal there by (Rich) Peverley, shorthanded goal. We had to kill six penalties tonight, our penalty kill did the job and the best penalty killer tonight was our goaltender."
