COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets left wing Rick Nash has been nominated for a 2008 ESPY (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) Award for his game-winning goal scored in the final seconds of a 4-3 win over the Coyotes at Phoenix on January 17. Nash’s goal is among four nominees for the “Best Play” of the year. The 2008 Awards, hosted by music superstar Justin Timberlake at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, will air on ESPN and ESPN HD on Sunday, July 20, at 9 p.m. ET.

For the fifth consecutive year, fans will determine the winners in 37 categories (excluding special awards) by voting online at www.espys.tv and, for the first time, via mobile phone at www.espn.mobi. Last year, more than 12.5 million votes were tabulated. Voting runs through 11:59 p.m. ET on July 12.
The Best Play ESPY Award is presented to the single play or performance, irrespective of sport contested or gender of participating sportsperson, adjudged to be the most remarkable, significant, or impressive in a given year. In addition to Nash’s goal, the other nominees for the award are: the Eli Manning to David Tyree completed pass during Super Bowl XLII; Trinity (TX) University’s 15 lateral play to win a Division III college football game as time expired; Minnesota’s Blake Hoffarber takes a full-court pass with 1.5 seconds left and beats Indiana at the buzzer during the Big Ten Basketball Tournament.
The ESPYs gather top celebrities from sports and entertainment to commemorate the past year in sports by recognizing major sports achievements, reliving unforgettable moments and saluting the leading performers and performances. The ESPYs are committed to the advancement of The V Foundation for Cancer Research, established by ESPN with the late Jim Valvano and announced at the inaugural ESPYs in 1993.
