Motzko, Novak Assigned to Crunch
Duo returns to Jackets American Hockey League affiliate Syracuse

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned forward Joe Motzko and defenseman Filip Novak to the Syracuse Crunch, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced tonight.

Motzko, 26, has tallied 1-0-1 with an even plus/minus rating in seven games with the Blue Jackets this season, scoring his first career NHL goal at Chicago on January 16. He has also tallied 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points with 29 penalty minutes and is +2 in 31 games with the Crunch this season. At the time of his recall on January 2, he led Syracuse in points and assists. He was signed as a free agent by the Blue Jackets on May 15, 2003, and has 1-0-1 in 11 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and 83-119-202 with 193 penalty minutes in 242 career AHL games.

Novak, 24, is scoreless with two penalty minutes and a +1 plus/minus rating in six games with Columbus this season. He has also tallied 3-20-23 and 64 penalty minutes in 35 games with the Crunch. The Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, native was the New York Rangers’ first pick, 64th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He has registered six penalty minutes in 17 career NHL games, including 11 with the Ottawa Senators in 2005-06. He has 22-93-115 and 285 penalty minutes 227 career AHL games.

The Blue Jackets return to action following the All-Star break on Friday, January 26 when they host the Buffalo Sabres. Game time at Nationwide Arena is 7 p.m. ET with live coverage on FSN Ohio beginning with the Ice Breaker pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. Coverage also includes the Blue Jackets Ice Cap post-game show immediately following the game. The game will also be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship stations WBNS-AM Sports Radio 1460 The Fan and WWCD-FM, CD101.
