The Columbus Blue Jackets dropped their final road game of the 2005 preseason, falling to the Detroit Red Wings, 9-0 at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday night.
Detroit outscored the Jackets 4-0 in the first period, tallied three more goals in the second and two in the third. After the opening period, the Jackets outshot the Red Wings, 16-13.
Marc Denis came under fire in the first period, saving 17-of-21 shots, finishing with 20 saves on the evening. Pascal Leclaire came on in relief of Denis, and stopped 5-of-8 shots.
Joe Motzko paced the Blue Jackets with four shots on goal, while Luke Richardson, Aaron Johnson and Manny Malhotra each added two shots.
The Blue Jackets return to action on Friday evening, playing host to the Chicago Blackhawks at 7 p.m.
