Hitchcock Sticks with Original Plan, Garon Gets the Start Here in Nashville!

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

December 10

After last night's 3-0 shutout victory over the Florida Panthers, Blue Jackets head coach Ken Hitchcock toyed with the idea of coming back with Steve Mason here in Nashville tonight. After sleeping on it and discussing it with his assistants the Jackets coach will stick with his original plan of giving tonight's start to Mathieu Garon.

In addressing the media this morning Coach Hitchcock said, "We have not had much success here (win less in 12, 0-10-2), so we are going to try something different. Mathieu has been solid this season, save for his game in Montreal."

The Jackets coach added, "Mase will go Saturday and likely six of the next seven or seven of the next eight." For Garon, it will be his first start in eight games.

If the Blue Jackets are to end the win less skid tonight... they MUST play a full 60 minutes and simply STAY out of the penalty box! Last time in Nashville, in late November, the Jackets led 1-0 and 2-1 before dropping a 4-3 shootout decision to the Predators.

Last night the Jackets rolled four lines throughout the contest and that's not a bad thing! With these back to back games and the need for a full game effort last night's decision to go with the full complement of the 12 forwards for the entire night should help this evening. Whether that equates to a victory tonight remains to be seen because bizarre things always seem to happen here - i.e. a goal called back... a review in the war room in Toronto, a bad call and frankly I could go on forever with other strange happenings!

Nashville coach Barry Trotz gets the last line change and as Hitchcock suggested this morning Trotz usually gets the match up he wants as a result.

But they do have to play the game and we will have it for you 8 p.m. on FOX Sports Ohio and yes tonight's telecast is in HD! Blue Jackets Live starts at 7:30 p.m. Enjoy the game.
