8:55 P.M. -- Mark Wyant talked to Wisniewski after the second period. LISTEN here to get his take on how the second period went.
8:35 P.M. -- SECOND PERIOD ANALYSIS: If the Blue Jackets wanted a period better than the first, well, they did so in the second. It was an impressive display of energy from all four lines and they have come dangerously close to a bigger lead than 3-1 after 40 minutes. They're shooting the puck hard and from the prime areas, and Greiss has been under siege at times in this game. Derick Brassard ladeled a sweet pass over a Shark defender's stick right to James Wisniewski, who snapped one past Greiss at 13:05 for a 2-0 Columbus lead on the power play. One minute and 11 seconds later, they struck again -- and this time it was Cody Goloubef's first goal in the National Hockey League. Patrick Marleau scored on a lethal wrister 13 seconds later to make it 3-1, and that's where we stand with 20 minutes to play at Nationwide.
8:00 P.M. -- In between grabbing another drink or more snacks, LISTEN to Mark Wyant's intermission interview with Jared Boll.
7:45 P.M. -- FIRST PERIOD ANALYSIS: A quick start was exactly what the Blue Jackets needed after their solid effort last night, and they got it. Brandon Dubinsky started things off with his first of the season and first goal as a Blue Jacket just 43 seconds into the game, jamming in a rebound to give Columbus a 1-0 lead. It was a weird play, too; Nick Foligno was in there causing havoc and the puck squired through Thomas Greiss and in front of the crease, where Dubinsky was waiting to swat it into the net. The Sharks came back with a push that was helped out by a pair of power plays, but the Blue Jackets' penalty kill held serve. All in all, this was a good start to the game for Columbus and a 20-minute effort it will need to replicate twice more in this game.
