GAME BLOG: Blue Jackets at Wild

by Rob Mixer / Columbus Blue Jackets

10:45 P.M. -- WINNERS!: The Blue Jackets score twice in the shootout and Sergei Bobrovsky denies both Wild shooters for a 3-2 shootout win! Columbus is now even in points at 45 with Dallas and Detroit.  The Stars currently hold the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with tiebreakers.
10:22 P.M. -- MID-PERIOD UDPATE: The Blue Jackets have had to do some work on the penalty kill but lead 2-1 after killing off a too many men on the ice penalty. Back-and-forth third period continues in St. Paul.

Quite the about-face from the Jackets in the second period, and they hold a 2-1 advantage through 40 minutes at Xcel Energy Center. Goals from Prospal and Tyutin in the middle frame have the Blue Jackets in the lead for the first time, and both were hard-working goals after a pair of excellent shifts in the Wild zone. Dubinsky's sick no-look pass to Prospal was helped by the mere presence of Gaborik on the ice, allowing Prospal to sneak into the high slot for a clear look at Backstrom. Tyutin's shot was bombed through a great screen set by Dubinsky, and that's where we stand through two periods.

9:22 P.M. -- MID-PERIOD UPDATE: Two quick goals from the Blue Jackets have given them their first lead of the night, and it's a 2-1 Columbus lead midway through the hockey game. Prospal and Tyutin have the goals for the Jackets.

8:54 P.M. -- UPDATE...

8:47 P.M. -- FIRST PERIOD ANALYSIS: The bad news is the Wild have a 1-0 lead after the first period in St. Paul, and pretty much carried the play in the first 20 minutes. The good news for the Blue Jackets is that there's plenty of hockey to be played and they know exactly what has to get better. One of those things is not their goaltender; Sergei Bobrovsky was masterful in the first period and the only puck to beat him was a bad bounce off one of his own defensemen. Minnesota leads in shots by a 15-6 margin and a handful of those were high-quality stops by Bobrovsky.

8:28 P.M. MID-PERIOD ANALYSIS -- Bobrovsky's on his game so far, making four or five big-time saves to keep this game on even terms. The Jackets have had to kill a penalty and are playing without Anisimov, who left early after a hit to the head from Coyle.

The crowd is building here at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Marion for tonight's #CBJBWW gathering. We're setup at 1573 Marion-Mt Gilead Rd. Stop by and join the fun if you're in the neighborhood:

12:46 P.M. -- JEFF RIMER CHECKS IN: Blue Jackets play-by-play man Jeff Rimer reports from St. Paul that Todd Richards will go with the same lineup that he used last night vs. St. Louis. That means Sergei Bobrovsky is back between the pipes, and Blake Comeau, Colton Gillies and Tim Erixon will be scratched.

9:00 A.M. -- MORNING UPDATE: After arriving in the wee hours of the morning, it doesn't look like the Blue Jackets will hold a formal morning skate today in St. Paul. We'll have complete coverage coming later this afternoon after the team does pre-game interviews at the team hotel.

8:00 A.M. -- LAST NIGHT'S RECAP: Cam Atkinson tied the game late in the first period, and the Jackets got a quick two-goal burst in the second period from Artem Anisimov and Ryan Johansen to help put the Blues away. Get the scoop on Columbus' 4-1 win with the recap, which you can read by clicking here.

6:30 A.M. -- RISE AND SHINE: Good morning, Blue Jackets fans! (or maybe some of you haven't gone to sleep yet...that's okay, we won't judge) It's game day once again and the Jackets arrived late last night in St. Paul, where they will take on the Minnesota Wild tonight at Xcel Energy Center.

They took care of business last night on home ice vs. the St. Louis Blues, but today is a new day and the Wild are the next challenge for the Jackets. Less than a week ago, these two teams met at Nationwide Arena but it was Minnesota getting a 3-0 win in a game that the Blue Jackets players and coaches were not at all happy with.

Back to last night: the Blue Jackets had 11 different players record a point and got 31 saves from Sergei Bobrovsky in a big-time win in front of a boisterous crowd at Nationwide Arena.

Let's kick today's blog off with highlights from that game...
