UP game analysis and updates

FINAL: St. Louis 3, CBJ 1

11:30 P.M. -- GOAL HIGHLIGHT: Watch Artem Anisimov's second-period goal tonight at St. Louis:

10:15 P.M. -- QUICK UPDATE: The non-goal call on Calvet is the story thus far in the third period, but the Jackets are still looking for the equalizer. St. Louis looks rather content to get the puck deep and milk the clock, and with 9:21 left, Columbus needs a big push to tie it up.

10:10 -- OK, so we thought Cam Atkinson scored to tied it up, but then it was called off because of "incidental contact with the goaltender." Yep...

9:54 P.M. -- The final battle (of the game). The 3rd period is underway. LET'S GO JACKETS!

9:45 P.M. -- SECOND PERIOD ANALYSIS: Well, we asked for something to happen...and those wishes were granted. The Blues and Blue Jackets combined for three goals in a four minute span to close out the second period, and the Blues hold a 2-1 edge through 40 minutes at Scottrade Center. Chris Stewart and David Backes have the goals for St. Louis while Artem Anisimov had a slick goal for Columbus, sneaking a sharp-angle shot through Allen's five hole to tie the game. Big third period ahead, folks.

9:43 P.M. -- End of the second. Blues 2, CBJ 1.

9:39 P.M. -- Ok...Artem Anisimov scored late in the second, then 9 seconds later the Blues go ahead 2-1...Yeah, really.

9:35 P.M. -- Score update:

9:20 P.M. -- QUICK UPDATE: Though it's still a scoreless tie in St. Louis, both teams have generated some quality looks in the past few minutes. Allen's been solid in goal for the Blues while Bobrovsky has held serve for Columbus.

Mascot analysis...

9:05 P.M. -- The second period is underway. Stay tuned...

8:46 P.M. -- FIRST PERIOD ANALYSIS: Would you expect anything different in a game between the Blues and Blue Jackets? Columbus made it through the first 10 minutes - always a key when playing a tough road building like Scottrade Center - and we're scoreless through one period of play. There were some skirmishes near the end of the period and things got a little testy, and that's exactly what you want to see during meaningful games in April. We'll see a lot more of it as this game moves along, you can count on that.

8:22 P.M. -- QUICK UPDATE: It's been a fast-paced start in the first 10 minutes at Scottrade Center with both clubs getting an opportunity on the power play. Jake Allen and Sergei Bobrovsky haven't been overly tested yet, but the intensity is off the charts on both sides.

6:30 A.M. -- BACK TO BACK: Welcome to Columbus, Marian Gaborik! The Blue Jackets got quite the debut from their trade deadline acquisition last night in Nashville, with Gaborik notching the game-winning goal in the third period off a nice pass from Brandon Dubinsky.

With the win, Columbus improved its record to 16-14-7 on the season and pulled into a points tie (39) with Edmonton and one point behind St. Louis -- the Blue Jackets' opponent tonight at Scottrade Center.

Every game is huge this time of the year, but as the coaches will say, the biggest next is always the next game. There's a lot on the line tonight and both clubs know that, which leads us to believe we're in for quite the hockey game when 8 p.m. rolls around.
