Columbus Blue Jackets Recall Goaltender Steve Mason from Syracuse (AHL); Assign Goaltender Dan LaCosta to Crunch

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled goaltender Steve Mason from the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, and have assigned goaltender Dan LaCosta to the Crunch, Blue Jackets' General Manager Scott Howson announced November 4.

Mason, 20, has gone 2-1-0 with a 1.63 goals-against average and .937 save percentage in three games with Syracuse this season. Playing his first professional season, he ranks third in the AHL in goals-against average and is fifth in save percentage.

Columbus' second pick, 69th overall, in the 2006 Entry Draft, Mason went 32-7-3 with 2.51 goals-against average, .916 save percentage and three shutouts in 42 games with London and Kitchener of the Ontario Hockey League in 2007-08. He ranked third in the OHL in wins, fourth in save percentage and fifth in goals-against average and shutouts (tied). He also went 5-0-0 with 1.19 goals-against average, .951 save percentage and one shutout in five games at the 2008 World Junior Championship, leading Canada to the gold medal and earning top goaltender and tournament MVP honors.

The Oakville, Ontario native was named the OHL Goaltender of the Year in 2006-07 when he set a league record for wins as he was 45-13-4 with 3.20 goals-against average, .914 save percentage and two shutouts in 62 games with London (OHL). In 116 career OHL games, he posted an 82-23-7 mark with a 2.90 goals-against average, .916 save percentage and five shutouts.

The Blue Jackets return to action Wednesday when they host the Edmonton Oilers. Game time at Nationwide Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio will begin with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 7 p.m. The game will also broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship stations WBNS-AM, Sports Radio 1460 The Fan and WWCD-FM, CD101.
