COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-assigned goaltender Steve Mason to the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League, club General Manager Scott Howson announced January 11. Mason was added to the roster on emergency recall on January 7 and did not see any game action with the Blue Jackets.
Mason, 19, was recently named the Most Valuable Player at Top Goaltender at the 2008 World Junior Championships after leading Canada to its fourth-straight gold medal. The Oakville, Ontario native went 5-0-0 with a 1.19 goals-against average, .951 save percentage and one shutout in five games.
Columbus' second pick, 69th overall, in the 2006 Entry Draft, he began the 2007-08 season with the Blue Jackets after going 1-2-0 with a 1.78 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in three games during the preseason. He did not appear in a regular season game with the club and was assigned to the OHL's London Knights on October 9. He posted a 19-4-3 record with a 2.79 goals-against average, .916 save percentage and two shutouts in 26 games with London before being traded to Kitchener on January 4.
The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when they host the St. Louis Blues at Nationwide Arena.
