Columbus Blue Jackets Prospects Moore, Filatov Named to Respective Junior Team Preliminary Rosters for 2010 World Junior Championships

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Defenseman John Moore was one of 29 players named to the United States National Junior Team preliminary roster that will compete at the 2010 World Junior Championships, while Nikita Filatov is among 33 players named to Team Russia's preliminary roster, the Blue Jackets announced December 2. The pair will be vying for spots on their respective rosters for the tournament, which will be held in Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan from Dec. 26, 2009 through Jan. 5, 2010.

Moore, 19, has registered three goals and 14 assists for 17 points, 26 penalty minutes and has a +1 plus/minus rating in 25 games with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. He leads club defensemen in goals, assists (tied) and points. He was the Blue Jackets first pick, 19th overall, in the 2009 Entry Draft. He had 14-25-39 and 50 penalty minutes in 57 games with Chicago of the United States Hockey League during the 2008-09 season. He was named the USHL Defenseman of the Year and ranked fourth among league defensemen in scoring. For his USHL career, he collected 18-36-54 and 76 penalty minutes in 113 games. The Winnetka, Illinois native won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2008 World Junior "A" Challenge and had 0-2-2 in five games.

Filatov, 19, has 5-5-10 and four penalty minutes in six games with CSKA of the Kontinental Hockey League since being loaned to the club on Nov. 17. He appeared in 13 games with the Blue Jackets this season, scoring two goals and adding eight penalty minutes. He has tallied 6-0-6 and eight penalty minutes in 21 NHL games over the past two seasons. Columbus’ first pick, sixth overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft, he tallied four goals in eight games with the Blue Jackets and notched 16-16-32 and 24 penalty minutes in 39 games with the Syracuse Crunch, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate. He split the 2007-08 season between CSKA’s Junior and Super League teams. He helped Russia capture the bronze medal at the 2008 World Junior Championships, tallying 4-5-9, 10 penalty minutes and was +7 in seven games.
