COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have named Don Boyd director of player personnel, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced today. In his new role, Boyd will continue to oversee all amateur scouting efforts by the Blue Jackets in North America and Europe, as well as assist MacLean, Executive Vice-President/Assistant General Manager Jim Clark and Director of Pro Scouting Bob Strumm in the evaluation of players at the professional level.

"Don Boyd has been an invaluable member of the Blue Jackets organization for the past six years and has been instrumental in building the foundation of our team with the young players we have acquired through the entry draft," said MacLean. "He is very knowledgeable and highly respected in the hockey community and we are fortunate to have him as a member of our organization."

Boyd, who originally joined the Blue Jackets as director of amateur scouting in 1999, has over 25 years of experience as a hockey executive, coach and scout. He came to Columbus after serving as an amateur scout with the St. Louis Blues. Prior to joining the Blues, he worked as a scout for the Ottawa Senators (1995-97) and Quebec Nordiques (1989-93). In addition to his work in the NHL, he has extensive coaching and management experience at the major junior level as well.

A native of Dryden, Ontario, he served as head coach of Regina of the Western Hockey League (1982-83) and was head coach and general manager of London (1983-86), Sault Ste. Marie (1986-89) and New Market/Sarnia (1993-95) of the Ontario Hockey League. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Michigan (1979-80) and was an assistant coach at the University of North Dakota (1980-82), including the 1981-82 season in which the Fighting Sioux won the NCAA title. Boyd is a 1976 graduate of Bowling Green State University, where he played varsity hockey.
