Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation, Players Announce Creation of the John H. McConnell Scholarship Fund

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Earlier this evening during the public memorial to celebrate the life and legacy of John H. McConnell, Columbus Blue Jackets captain Rick Nash announced the establishment of the John H. McConnell Scholarship Fund. The money raised for the fund will be used to award annual scholarships to central Ohio high school students who personify the character and leadership of Mr. McConnell, who was the team's majority owner and chairman and the chairman of the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation.

The scholarship fund, established in the name of Blue Jackets players in partnership with the team's charitable foundation, enables fans to join the players in honoring Mr. McConnell's philanthropic legacy and his deep-rooted belief in the importance of giving back to the community. The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation was established in March of 2000 by John H. McConnell to utilize the unique resources of the hockey club's professional athletes, coaches and staff to help improve the quality of life throughout the community. To date, the Foundation has awarded approximately $1.9 million in community grants. For more information on the John H.
