COLUMBUS, OHIO – In conjunction with the Columbus Blue Jackets 10th National Hockey League season, the team's charitable foundation is celebrating its Decade of Giving by announcing the "10th Season $10,000 Assist," a contest in which fans may visit the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation's official Facebook page to nominate a favorite non-profit organization for the chance to receive a $10,000 donation. One winning organization will be selected and awarded a $10,000 check at the Blue Jackets game on Sunday, Mar. 20 when the Jackets host the New Jersey Devils.
Since its inception in 2000, the Foundation has donated more than $3 million to support a variety of local charities and causes that serve the Foundation’s main pillars of giving: pediatric cancer; education; children’s health and safety; and the development of youth and amateur hockey. With the 10th Season $10,000 Assist, the Foundation welcomes nominations for organizations whose missions are either within or outside the scope of the Foundation’s standard grant-giving criteria.
"The 10th Season $10,000 Assist is our way of giving back to the central Ohio community that has supported our team and advanced the mission of our Foundation over the last decade," said Wendy Bradshaw, Executive Director of the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation. "This tremendous opportunity also gives us a rare chance to engage deserving groups or special projects that may otherwise fall outside our usual philanthropic areas of focus."
From now through Feb, 21, 2011, individuals interested in nominating a favorite charity may visit www.facebook.com and search "Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation" to reach the Foundation page and complete the entry form provided. Upon the conclusion of the nomination period, an advisory committee comprised of Foundation donors and Blue Jackets front-office staff will review all submissions and select 10 finalists. Facebook fans are then encouraged to vote for their favorite nominees from Mar. 1-14, 2011. The winner will be announced on the Foundation's Facebook page on Sunday, Mar. 20, 2011.
Eligible non-profit organizations must be located in Franklin and contiguous counties and must be able to verify official 501(c)(3) status. For further information, including rules and exclusions, visit the contest page on Facebook.
