CBJ Begin First Ever Stanley Cup Journey Here in Detroit Tonight!

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

April 16

Here we go folks... yes... "Game On"

The Blue Jackets long overdue first ever Stanley Cup game and how fitting it comes here in the Motor City against the Defending Stanley Cup Champions and the CBJ's division rival.

Both teams took to the ice here at Joe Louis Arena with a purpose, a focus, and very little chatter. The Red Wings are not taking the Jackets lightly. There is a great, great deal of respect for Coach Hitchcock's team and all around Detroit a huge concern about Detroit's goaltending. Chris Osgood has not had a good year after his terrific run last spring backstopping the Wings Stanley Cup victory.

At the other end of the ice, Wings coach Mike Babcock in an effort to deflect some of the concern about his goaltending, points to Osgood's record being much the same as Steve Mason's over the last 10 games or so. Talking to Mason after practice today the Jackets goalie, mature well beyond his years told the huge media contingent following the skate this morning that he will not put any added pressure on himself in that he is seeing his first ever post season play. Says Mason... "It's a simple game and I intend to keep it that way."

On the injury front both Kristian Huselius and Freddie Modin return to the lineup tonight while Derrick Brassard has not been cleared for full contact but will return to the Cleveland Cline next week and might be available for one of the two games...three or four in Columbus.

Enjoy the game... it's in spectacular HD on Fox Sports Ohio at 7 p.m.!
