The Blue Jackets will attempt to put last night behind them as they face off against the Canadiens here in Montreal tonight. Another loosely played effort in New York cost them dearly last night falling 7-4 to the Rangers, which you could debate might have been worse than the 9-1 loss to the Red Wings almost two weeks ago.
Coach Hitchcock, after a team meeting at the Bell Centre, said that he needs better play from his top two lines and top four defensemen. He stated that "to get to the next level we demand better play."... adding the team's top players can't be big time minuses on the score sheet at the end of the night. Against the Rangers last night the Jackets were not winning the 1-on-1 battles or the fights for the puck on the boards. Again, as he has stated before, "We must put work ahead of skill."
Enough about last night... tonight the Canadiens have size on their blue line and skill up front and the Jackets have to deal with that and simply outwork the Canadiens, who are a well coached group, guided by Jacques Martin.
Mathieu Garon, originally drafted by Montreal will get the start for the CBJ tonight and the Quebec-native says he is excited about the playing here in Montreal, but he quickly adds that - "I don't want it to be a distraction, this is an important game."
Tonight's game is in High Definition and things get started with "Blue Jackets Live" at 7 p.m. Game time is 7:30 p.m. on FOX Sports Ohio.
