Dec. 6 – at COLUMBUS 3, Dallas 2 (SO): Rick Nash's power play goal at 19:13 of the third period tied the game at 2-2 and he and Kyle Wilson tallied in the shootout to help the Jackets snap a five-game winless streak. Kris Russell added a goal and Mathieu Garon made 16 saves for Columbus, which outshot the Stars 29 to 18… Dec. 9 – at ST. LOUIS 4, COLUMBUS 1: The Blues scored three power play goals and held the Jackets to 0-of-8 with the man advantage en route to the win. Jaroslav Halak made 27 saves for the Blues while Jan Hejda scored for Columbus, which outshot St. Louis 28 to 24… Dec. 11 – at COLUMBUS 3, NY RANGERS 1: Rick Nash scored twice in the game's final 5:09 and Steve Mason made 32 saves to lead Columbus to the win. Marc Staal's power play goal at 9:53 of the second period gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead before the Jackets tied the game at 1-1 on Antoine Vermette's power play just tally 5:50 later.
BEST START IN FRANCHISE HISTORY CONTINUES FOR JACKETS
Columbus' 16-11-1 record and 33 points through 28 games continue to represent the best start in franchise history. The previous fastest the club had registered 16 wins was 36 games (2008-09 and 2007-08) and its quickest to 33 points was 30 games (2009-10). The Blue Jackets have gone 7-4-1 in their last 12 games at home to improve to 8-7-1 (includes one loss vs. San Jose at Stockholm). The fastest the club hit eight home wins is 14 games (2008-09 and 2007-08). Columbus is 8-4-0 on the road and hit road win no. 8 in its ninth game, which is 15 games earlier than the previous best of 23 (2008-09).
TEAM NEWS & NOTES
The Blue Jackets have gone 6-2 in games decided in overtime/shootouts this season, which is one win more than the club registered in 2009-10 (5-15)… The Jackets are 2-1 in shootouts compared to 2-10 a year ago… Columbus is 14-2-0 when tied or leading after two periods… The club ranks sixth in the NHL in face-off percentage (52.1 pct.), eighth in hits with 696 (24.8 per game) and ninth-T in team plus/minus rating (+7)… Columbus plays 10 games over the final 19 days of December, which includes a two-day Christmas break on Dec. 24-25… After this week's three-game road trip, the club will play five of the final seven at home before playing eight-of-11 in January on the road.
NASH SETS ANOTHER CLUB RECORD; NAMED NHL'S THIRD STAR OF THE WEEK
LW Rick Nash became the franchise's all-time leader in games played last Saturday vs. the NY Rangers when he played in game no. 544 to surpass former Jacket David Vyborny (113-204-317 in 543 games from 2000-08). With 243-203-446, Nash is one assist shy of matching Vyborny’s club record in that category. He already owns club marks for goals, points, power play points (153) and goals (72), shorthanded points (17), goals (12) and assists (five), shots on goal (1,774), hat tricks (five), multi-goal (37) and multi-point (112) games. Nash tallied 3-3-6 in three games last week, scoring the tying goal (adding an assist and a shootout tally) in a 3-2 SO win vs. Dallas on Dec. 6 and adding 2-1-3, including the GWG, in a 3-1 win vs. the NY Rangers on Dec. 11. He raised his season totals to a team-leading 16-8-24 in 27 games, ranking first (tied) in the NHL with five game-winning goals and fifth (tied) in goals.
KLESLA SET TO BECOME THIRD MEMBER OF CBJ "500 CLUB"
D Rostislav Klesla has registered 39-91-130 and 494 PIM in 498 games during his Blue Jackets/NHL career and is two games shy of joining Rick Nash (544) and David Vyborny (543) as the only players to play in 500 games with the club. He is slated to appear in his 500th game on Wednesday at Vancouver. The Blue Jackets' first-ever draft pick (fourth overall in the 2000 Entry Draft), Klesla has tallied 1-6-7 and 12 penalty minutes in 28 games this season and continues to lead the NHL in plus/minus rating at +18.
Columbus is 13-1-0 when LW Jakub Voracek (5-12-17 in 28 games) records a point this season… LW R.J. Umberger has 3-11-14 in his last 15 games and snapped a four-game drought with an assist vs. the NY Rangers on Nov. 11… C Antoine Vermette has picked up 5-3-8 in his last nine games compared to 3-4-7 in his first 19 outings this season… D Jan Hejda has picked up points in five of his last nine games (1-4-5) after being held without a point in his previous 11 outings.
JACKETS' FIRST ALL-STAR ESPEN KNUTSEN RETURNS ON SATURDAY, DEC. 18
The Blue Jackets' third Alumni Night of their 10th Season, presented by Columbus Gas, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 18 when the team hosts the Dallas Stars and welcomes back Espen Knutsen. Knutsen was the club's first All-Star in 2002 and still holds or shares club records for assists (five) and points (five) in a game. Knutsen, who registered 27-81-108 in 188 games as a Blue Jacket from 2000-04, currently serves as the head coach of Valerenga Ice Hockey Club in his hometown of Oslo, Norway. He will drop the ceremonial first puck prior to the game and sign autographs for fans after the game's conclusion on the Nationwide Arena concourse. In addition, all fans in attendance will receive a CBJ winter hat courtesy of Columbia Gas.

LW Rick Nash and LW R.J. Umberger are among the 100 players who appear on the 2011 NHL All-Star Fan Balloting, which takes place Nov. 15-Jan. 3 at NHL.com and Facebook.com/NHL. Fans can select up to six players by position -- three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender -- without regard to the conference in which their teams play for in the 2011 NHL All-Star Game presented by Discover, which will be held at RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C. on Sunday, Jan. 30.
