Jackets Post Shutout in Tournament Opener
After a mild Columbus winter to date, the Quebec Jackets have acclimated to the brisk winter in Quebec. An exhibition game against the Connecticut Wolves playing up a level in the B division of the tournament was excellent preparation for the first game in the Colisee after an 18 hour bus trip. The Jackets lost 5 to 1 and ran into a hot goaltender. The Jackets came out strong and led the game 1-0 at the end of the first period. After struggling through the second period the Jackets regained their composure and took the game to the Wolves but were stopped short numerous times by a goaltender that would not open up. The lone goal was scored by Sean Kuraly assisted by Kent Scherer and Austin Cousino.

The competition proved to be an excellent set up for a potentially challenging first tournament game against a Quebec Cartier team that would have the hearts of the crowd. The game ended up being a quiet affair in the Colisee but the Jackets bench was beaming with a complete performance by each member of the team and a 9-0 win under their belt. Wes Faulkenberry and Eddy Arcy shared the shutout and goals were scored by Sean Kuraly(2), Austin Cousino(2), Jude Warner, Connor Murphy, Luke Veitch, Sean Starker and Kent Sherrer. Kevin Putnam added 3 assists with several others adding to play making. The same tone was taken into an exhibition game on Sunday against a Dallas team playing a level above in the B division. Eddy Arcy recorded the shutout and goals were scored by Kent Scherer(2), Ryan Borcherding, Kevin Putnam and Damian Lona.

Monday started of much the same way against a strong Arby Avalanche of Connecticut team that could possibly result in a future match up latter in the C division of the tournament. The Jackets got of to a strong start and engineered a 5 to 1 lead. The Avalanche would not relent and battled back to a 5-5 tie before the horn sounded. Goals were tallied by Kent Scherer(2), Kevin Putnam, Austin Cousino and Sam O'Brian.

The boys rested for an hour and then entertained the Rabat Capitals from Morocco Africa. The Capitals are a team developing their skills and the young Jackets demonstrated excellent sportsmanship by showing their counterparts the finer points of the game and sharing in the enjoyment. The Jackets will prepare for their second round game on Wednesday at 3:30 pm in the Colisse with a practice on Tuesday followed by a treat watching the Quebec Remparts battle the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Jr. League.
