COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets and television partner FSN Ohio released the 2008-09 telecast schedule as the network will once again carry 75 regular season games live beginning on Friday, Oct. 10, when the Blue Jackets open their eighth National Hockey League season against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. The Blue Jackets and FSN are currently finalizing the schedule of games to be broadcast in High Definition. That schedule will be released in the near future.
"We are very excited about bringing FSN Ohio's Emmy Award-winning broadcasts of Blue Jackets hockey to fans across Ohio again this season," said the club's Vice President of Marketing Marc Gregory. "Last year, FSN Ohio brought fans closer to the game than ever before and we look forward to continuing to offer unmatched access and coverage of our team to FSN Ohio viewers."
FSN Ohio will air 38 home games and 37 away contests during the 2008-09 regular season. The NHL schedule for 2008-09 features a continued emphasis on division rivalries, but this year will see each club play each of the other 29 member clubs either at home or on the road. This year's telecast on FSN Ohio will feature the Blue Jackets facing off against each of the remaining 29 NHL clubs. Highlights of the featured games include: six games against the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings; games against the other five "Original Six" NHL franchises – Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, and the New York Rangers; two featuring NHL most valuable player Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals (Nov. 29 at home and Jan. 9 at Washington); and the March 12 contest against Sidney Crosby and the Eastern Conference champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
"FSN Ohio is thrilled to offer Blue Jackets fans 75 games again this season," said Steve Liverani, FSN Ohio Senior Vice President and General Manager. "As the leading sports television network in the region, FSN Ohio will provide fans with more access, information and in-depth coverage of the new-look Columbus Blue Jackets than ever before."
The FSN Ohio-Blue Jackets broadcast team once again features play-by-play announcer Jeff Rimer alongside color analyst and former NHL All-Star Danny Gare. Game night coverage begins 30 minutes prior to each game and continues after the final horn with the Blue Jackets Live pre- and post-game shows. Blue Jackets radio network analyst Bill Davidge joins the television team for the pre-game edition, which is hosted by Jeff Hogan from Nationwide Arena and Jim Day from the road. The home and road post-game shows are hosted by Jim Day.
On a national level, Versus will feature one Blue Jackets contest when Columbus hosts the St. Louis Blues at Nationwide Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. The NBC flex schedule will be announced later in the season
