Blue Jackets Focused for Game 2 in Detroit Tonight!

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

April 18

Despite trailing 1-0 in their first ever Stanley Cup Playoff appearance the Blue Jackets are focused for game 2 tonight here in the Motor City. Coach Hitchcock has promised changes tonight, look for some adjustments to the lines and a possible lineup change or two in the Jackets attempt to square the series before returning to Columbus for games 3 and 4 next week.

It's interesting to note that the Blue Jackets have not lost four games in a row all season long and yes this Detroit team is a formidable one… Defending Stanley Cup Champs and all but the Jackets know they can beat them… but they must cash in on their opportunities, must get back to their strong face-off play and continue to shut down the Wings top six forwards… in my opinion as good a top two lineup as there is in the game presently!

Seven Blue Jackets appeared in their first NHL postseason game and you can’t dismiss opening night jitters… especially facing the champs in their building! Coach Hitchcock in addressing the media following yesterday's off day skate said the young defensive pair of Russell and Methot at times appeared to look like “deer in headlights" but I say given the opportunity this evening both will be much better.

Although the media here in Detroit have done a quick about face on the play of Chris Osgood, I am not convinced that his season long slump is behind him. The Blue Jackets must get bodies and pucks to the net, cash in on their chances, and with Steve Mason in goal…they CAN send the series back to Nationwide tied for game two Tuesday!

Note the start time tonight… It's 6 p.m. on FOX Sports Ohio… and YES AGAIN in High Definition!!!
