COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Ryan Murray will miss four to six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Murray, 20, has recorded three goals 17 assists for 20 points in addition to a +3 plus/minus rating in 61 games played with the Blue Jackets this season, his first in the NHL. He currently ranks third among all league rookies in blocked shots (93), second in time on ice (1,207:37) and is tied for fifth in power play points by a first-year defenseman (6).
A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Murray was Columbus’ first pick, second overall, at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-1, 208-pound defenseman tallied 22-99-121 and a +51 rating in 191 games played for the Everett Silvertips (WHL) from 2009-12. He won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships and became the second-youngest player in Canadian history to compete at the IIHF World Championships that same year.
