Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno to appear at 2015 Morning Sports Report

COLUMBUS, OH -- Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno will join Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and Columbus Crew SC midfielder Wil Trapp at this year's Morning Sports Report.

The Morning Sports Report will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 7-9:15 a.m., at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Grand Ballrooms 1-3. Starting with a VIP reception presen ted by Time Warner Cable Business Class, this annual sports town hall meeting provides fans an inside look at Central Ohio’s sports scene, featuring its teams, notable figures, upcoming events and a Fan Fair full of exhibits by our sports teams and select vendors.

Foligno, 27, was named the sixth captain in Blue Jackets history on May 20 and is coming off the best season of his eight-year NHL career as he set career highs in virtually every offensive category with 31 goals and 42 assists for 73 points with 50 penalty minutes and a +16 plus/minus rating in 79 games in 2014-15. He led the club in goals, points, plus/minus rating, power play goals (11), shooting percentage (17.0 pct.) and multi-point games (17). He ranked 10th-tied in the NHL in points and 12th-tied in goals, and served as a team captain at the 2015 NHL All-Star Game held at Nationwide Arena. The Buffalo, New York native, who was also selected as the winner of the club’s Community MVP Award for his work off the ice.

Trapp, 22 and a native of Gahanna, signed as a Homegrown Player for Columbus Crew SC in 2013 and is current Vice-Captain of his hometown club. A technically gifted central midfielder, Trapp set a career-high in appearances last season for Columbus with 28 (all starts), notching one goal, four assists and an 87.2% passing accuracy rate, fifth in Major League Soccer among players with as many matches played. Trapp earned his first cap for the United States senior National Team on January 28, 2015 in a friendly at Chile, entering the match as a second-half substitute. Collegiately, Trapp played for the University of Akron, starting 45 matches in two seasons while being named a two-time All-MAC First Team honoree.
