COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned left wing Kerby Rychel and defenseman Justin Falk to Cleveland’s Lake Erie Monsters, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced tonight.
Rychel, 21, collected three assists and 11 penalty minutes with a +3 plus/minus rating in 11 games with the Blue Jackets this season. The club’s second first round pick, 19th overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft, he was leading Lake Erie in scoring with 4-7-11 in 10 games prior to being recalled by Columbus on November 14. The Torrance, California native recorded 0-3-3 with two penalty minutes and was +3 in five games with the Blue Jackets in his first professional season in 2014-15 and added 12-21-33, 43 penalty minutes and was +7 in 51 games with the AHL’s Springfield Falcons.
Falk, 27, picked up two penalty minutes and was -2 in four games with the Blue Jackets since being recalled on November 24. He has recorded 2-2-4 and 24 penalty minutes in 15 games with Lake Erie this season and has registered 9-28-37 and 230 penalty minutes in 243 career AHL games. The Snowflake, Manitoba native was Minnesota’s second pick, 110th overall, in the 2007 NHL Draft and has registered 2-17-19 and 136 penalty minutes in 151 career NHL games, including 1-1-2 and nine penalty minutes in nine games since joining the Blue Jackets via trade last March.
