The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned center Geoff Platt to the Syracuse Crunch, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, team President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced Sunday.
The Blue Jackets also announced that right wing Nikolai Zherdev is expected to practice with the club on Monday and be available to make his season debut vs. the Phoenix Coyotes that evening. Zherdev, who tallied 27-27-54 in 73 games in 2005-06 signed a three-year contract with the club on September 28.
Platt, 21, was scoreless in one regular season game with Columbus after leading the club in preseason scoring with seven points on four goals and three assists in four games. As a rookie pro in 2005-06, he notched 30-35-65 and 58 penalty minutes in 68 games with Syracuse and added 0-5-5 and 16 penalty minutes in 15 games with Columbus.
The Blue Jackets return to action on Monday when they host the Phoenix Coyotes at Nationwide Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Live coverage on FSN Ohio begins with the IceBreaker, pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. and includes the Blue Jackets Ice Cap post-game show immediately following the game.
