COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets and National Hockey League announced today a 2014-15 regular season schedule in which the club will play 82 games, including 41 home dates at Nationwide Arena. The Blue Jackets will open the season at Buffalo on Thursday, October 9 before playing their home-opener at Nationwide Arena on Saturday, October 11 against the New York Rangers. Game time for the clash of Metropolitan Division rivals is 7 p.m.
This season’s schedule will see the Blue Jackets play every team in the NHL at least once at home and once on the road. Columbus will play Metropolitan Division teams a total of 30 times, including 15 games at Nationwide Arena. The Washington Capitals will pay three visits to Columbus while the Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins will each visit Columbus twice.
The Blue Jackets will face members of the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division 24 times, including 12 at home. The club will play two home games each against the Boston Bruins, Sabres, Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, while hosting the Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning once each.
Overall, the Blue Jackets will play their 82 games over 185 days with 39 games slated for Friday or Saturday, including nine Friday home games and 10 Saturday home contests at Nationwide Arena. Columbus will play 17 times on Tuesday nights, including 12 times at home. March is the club’s busiest month with 15 games, while November and December each will feature eight home games. Dec. 13 and Apr. 4 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (rematch of 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs first round series)
Dec. 20 vs. Chicago Blackhawks (lone visit by former Central Division rivals, 2013 Stanley Cup champions)
Dec. 31 vs. Minnesota Wild (first New Year’s Eve game at Nationwide Arena since 2011)
Jan. 14 and Feb. 26 vs. Montreal Canadiens (23-time Stanley Cup champions visit twice)
Feb. 9 vs. Los Angeles Kings (lone home game vs. the reigning Stanley Cup champions)
In addition, the NHL All-Star Celebration, one of the League's showcase events, is coming to Columbus in late January. The Blue Jackets and Nationwide Arena will host the NHL All-Star Skills Competition on Saturday, January 24 and the 60th NHL All-Star Game on Sunday, January 25.
