COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets and National Hockey League announced today a 2013-14 regular season schedule in which the club will play 82 games, including 41 home dates at Nationwide Arena. This will mark the first season in which Columbus will compete in the Eastern Conference and the Metropolitan Division following the league’s realignment, announced earlier this year. The Blue Jackets will open their 2013-14 campaign on Friday, October 4, hosting the Calgary Flames at Nationwide Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
2013-14 Blue Jackets Schedule
The 2013-14 schedule will see the Blue Jackets play every team in the NHL at least once at home and once on the road. Columbus will play the members of their new division a total of 30 times, including 15 dates at Nationwide Arena. The Pittsburgh Penguins will pay three visits to Columbus while the New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals, New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders will each visit Columbus twice. New Eastern Conference rivals in the Atlantic Division will include the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins, all members of the NHL’s Original Six, as well as the Buffalo Sabres, Tampa Bay Lighting, Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers.
Twenty-two of the Jackets’ 41 home games will be staged on a weekend day this season, including ten Friday, eight Saturday and four Sunday dates. Columbus will host the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks on Friday, April 4 and welcome the Eastern Conference Champion Bruins to Nationwide Arena on Saturday, October 12.
November and March are Columbus’ two busiest months of the season with 16 games apiece while January is the third-busiest with 14 games, eight of which will be played at Nationwide Arena. Columbus will play back-to-back games a total of 17 times this season, including a home-and-home series versus Pittsburgh on November 1 and 2.
The 2013-14 NHL schedule will feature a two-week-plus break during the month of February as many of the league’s players will compete in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. This will be the fifth time the NHL has participated in the Olympics.
The Blue Jackets have also announced their eight-game preseason schedule, which will include home games against Pittsburgh on Sunday, September 15, Buffalo on Tuesday, September 17, Minnesota on Monday, September 23 and Carolina on Thursday, September 26.
Columbus recorded one of the most successful seasons in franchise history in 2012-13, compiling its highest-ever winning percentage (.573) on the strength of a 24-17-7 record (55 pts.), a mark which tied the club for eighth place in the Western Conference. The Blue Jackets went 19-5-4 in March and April which was the second-best record in the NHL over that time.
