The Rockford Rewind: Hogs continue winning ways

Wed., Feb. 29: Abbotsford Heat 3 vs. IceHogs 2 (SO):
> Ben Smith gave the IceHogs an early 1-0 advantage with his 15th goal of the season.
> Matt Fornataro registered his seventh marker on the campaign in the first period.
> Goaltender Carter Hutton turned away 35 shots but was tagged with a shootout loss.

Fri., March 2: IceHogs 3 at Milwaukee Admirals 1:

> In the opening frame, defenseman Ryan Stanton put Rockford on the board with his first of the season.
> Brandon Pirri and Jeremy Morin each tallied in the third period to lead Rockford to the win.
> Carter Hutton picked up his 14th win of the season, stopped 44 of 45 chances.

Sat., March 3: IceHogs 2 at Peoria Rivermen 1:
> Rockford's netminder, Carter Hutton, blocked 24 shots to pick up the win.
> The IceHogs earned their sixth comeback win of the season with two goals in the final period.
> The Hogs extended their hot streak to six straight games in which the team has earned a point in the standings.
Bacon Bits:
> Rockford ran their point streak to six straight games (5-0-0-1) in Week 23, one game shy of their team season-high. The IceHogs picked up points in seven straight contests (6-0-0-1) from Jan. 16-28, 2012.
> Carter Hutton has been in goal for all six games and has a .962 save percentage with a 1.12 goals-against average during the hot stretch.
> In those six games, Hutton has allowed two or fewer goals and two goals twice.
> Since Jan. 8, Hutton is 12-4-0-2 with a 2.01 GAA and .928 S%.
> After thei win on Saturday in Peoria, Rockford climbed back to the .500 mark (26-26-2-5) for the first time since Oct. 28 (4-4-0) in a span of 51 games.
> On Jan. 12, Rockford's team GAA was 3.76, last in the AHL by .43 goals.
> Entering Week 24, Rockford's team GAA was 3.17, a .59 goals per game improvement in 22 games, now ranking them 26th in the American Hockey League.
> Since Jan. 8, Rockford is 5-2-1-1 when trailing after the second period on the road.
> Center Brandon Pirri tied an IceHogs single season record with his sixth game-winning goal on March 2 in Milwaukee.
> Jack Skille was the last IceHog skater to notch six game-winners in a season, during the 2008-09 season.
> Pirri curently leads Rockford in scoring (40), goals (22), assists (28), plus/minus rating (+9) and multi-point games (15).
> Brandon Bollig became the fourth IceHogs skater to make his NHL debut this season with the Blackhawks, joining Jimmy Hayes, Dylan Olsen and Andrew Shaw, all of whom are still in Chicago.
> Bollig became the 46th IceHogs alumnus to skate in the NHL.

Hot Hog:


Goaltender Carter Hutton kept the IceHogs on the winning track as he helped the team earn points in all three games (2-0-0-1) and ran his point streak to six straight games (5-0-0-1). On Wednesday, Hutton made 35 saves in a 3-2 shootout loss to Abbotsford in Rockford. Hutton then backstopped Rockford to a 3-1win in Milwaukee on Friday night, making 44 saves against the Admirals. On Saturday, Hutton helped Rockford to their fifth come-from-behind victory on the road since Jan. 8, making 24 saves in a 2-1 win at Peoria. On the week, the Thunder Bay, Ontario native finished with a .963 S% and a 1.30 GAA.
