Last week, chicagoblackhawks.com asked fans to vote on the best of 2011-12 in the annual Fans Choice Awards. This week, the Blackhawks fans’ picks will be revealed in all nine on- and off-ice categories.
In his second full NHL season, Viktor Stalberg raised his game another level, and showed fans what his unique blend of size and speed could do.
The 26-year-old Swede achieved career highs in all scoring categories, registering 22 goals and 21 assists in 79 regular-season games while averaging 14:04 of ice time. On Jan. 10, Stalberg netted his first career hat trick against Columbus, a team he victimized for 10 points (8G, 2A) in six matchups. Stalberg was the only player in the league to record 20-plus goals and 30-plus points without a single contribution coming on the power play or penalty kill; he also became the first player in Blackhawks history to tally 20 or more goals all at even strength.
As quick with a one-liner as he was to drop the gloves, Brandon Bollig was voted the best tweeter by a margin of 15 percent over runner-up Andrew Shaw.
Here are a few excerpts of @Bollig87's feed, deemed to be the best in the Blackhawks' locker room:
