Danny Richmond File

by Staff Writer / Chicago Blackhawks Draft Review

"Like his father before him, Danny Richmond, Carolina's second pick, 31st overall, attended the University of Michigan. Danny's father, Steve, had a nine-year professional career that included time with the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings.

But Danny Richmond decided to fast-track his pro career. He left Michigan after being named to the All-CCHA rookie team and put in a productive season with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. He moved up to AHL Lowell this season and is playing a regular shift. Karmanos is pleased with his development and dedication, but warned he may need a little seasoning before being ready to play in the NHL.

"Richmond is in his first year as a pro. More than anything, everyone is impressed with his desire that he brings on a daily basis," Karmanos said. "Danny never takes a day or a shift off. He's a good skater with good hands and a very good passer of the puck. He needs to get bigger and stronger and work on his defensive play. He's a player that has a lot of potential, but he needs development in terms of strength. His game needs to mature a bit to get to point where he is an NHL defenseman. You don't often see in players that desire and that passion to succeed. Because of that, we think he will make it and be a solid NHL defenseman."
