by Chicago Blackhawks / Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled forward Jimmy Hayes from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. In addition, the team has assigned defenseman Steve Montador to the IceHogs.

Hayes, 23, ranks fourth on the IceHogs with 39 points (22G, 17A) in 58 games this season. He is tied for the team lead, and shares 10th in the AHL, with 22 goals. The 6-6, 221-pound forward ranks second on the team with eight power-play tallies and paces the club with two shorthanded goals.

The Boston, Mass., native appeared in 31 games with the Blackhawks during the 2011-12 season, registering nine points (5G, 4A) in those contests. Hayes made his National Hockey League debut on Dec. 30 vs. Detroit and scored his first career goal in his next game on Jan. 2 vs. Edmonton. He tallied a season-high two points (1G, 1A) three times last year (Jan. 12, Jan. 18 and Feb. 21) and also appeared in two Stanley Cup Playoff matchups for Chicago.

Hayes was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a second-round choice in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft (Bradley Ross) on June 26, 2010. He was originally selected by Toronto in the second round, 60th overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Montador, 33, has not appeared in a game with the Blackhawks this season. The Vancouver, British Columbia, native appeared in 52 games with the Blackhawks during the 2011-12 season, posting 14 points (5G, 9A) and has earned 131 points (33G, 98A) in 571 career NHL games with Calgary, Florida, Anaheim, Boston, Buffalo and Chicago.

The Blackhawks return to action on Thursday, March 14 when they travel to Columbus to open a four-game road trip. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT, and can be seen locally on Comcast SportsNet Chicago and heard on WGN Radio AM-720.
