After Edmonton netminder Mathieu Garon stopped both a semi-breakaway by Paul Stastny
and Scott Hannan’s follow-up attempt, Avalanche captain Joe Sakic calmly swooped in and tucked the puck underneath Garon’s legs. Stastny Freezes the “D” - 10/14 at Calgary
With the Avalanche on a power play, Paul Stastny
corralled a cross-ice feed from Joe Sakic while stationed at the bottom of the left faceoff circle. Showing incredible patience, Stastny held onto the puck long enough to grab the attention of Calgary’s defense and netminder Miikka Kiprusoff before slipping a feed to Ryan Smyth for the goal. McCormick’s Work Pays Off – 10/16 vs. Philadelphia
The Avalanche’s aggressive forecheck was on full display during the club’s 5-2 win over the Flyers. Cody McCormick first knocked the puck away from a Philadelphia defenseman near the blue line, which David Jones
then corralled before rewarding a cutting McCormick with a nice pass for the forward’s first goal of the season.
