DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced Sunday that left wing Steve Konowalchuk will need surgery on his right wrist to repair torn ligaments. He will miss the remainder of the 2005-06 season.
"Further examination along with an MRI confirmed that Steve has torn ligaments in his right wrist and that surgery is necessary," said Avalanche Head Athletic Trainer Matt Sokolowski. "We anticipate the recovery time to be between six and seven months."
Konowalchuk suffered the injury in a game versus the Calgary Flames on November 21st. He tallied 15 points (6g/9a) and was +5 in 21 games played this season.
The Avalanche assistant captain will undergo surgery later this week.
