Sakic, Blake Named To Canadian Olympic Team

DENVER - Colorado Avalanche captain Joe Sakic and defenseman Rob Blake were among the 23 names announced by Hockey Canada to comprise the 2006 Canadian Olympic roster.

Sakic, who will serve as Canada's captain, is making his third appearance on a Canadian Olympic roster. He skated for Team Canada in the 1998 Winter Games and helped lead the 2002 Olympic squad to a gold medal. In 10 Olympic contests, he has tallied 10 points (5g/5a).

Blake is also making his third appearance on the Canadian Olympic squad and was a member of the gold medal winning team in the 2002 Winter Games. He has registered two goals and three assists in 12 Olympic games.

Both will join Team Canada at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Italy when the NHL breaks for Olympic competition beginning February 13.
