Semyon Varlamov capped off his stellar World Championship play with a 29-save performance in Russia's 6-2 victory over Slovakia in the gold-medal game. 

It was Varlamov's eighth win in eight appearances (8-0) and finished the tournament with a 1.77 goals-against average and .939 save percentage in 440 minutes of play, helping Russia win its first gold since Switzerland 2009.

Russia also became the first champions to win all their games in regulation since the 1989 Soviets, who also won 10 straight.

Semyon Varlamov made 29-of-31 saves in Russia's 6-2 victory over Finland in the semi-finals today.  The win not only gave Varlamov his seventh win in seven appearances (7-0), but it punched a ticket to the championship game against Slovakia, who beat the Czech Republic 3-1 today.

Varlamov's play in the World Championship has been nothing short of fantastic.  The Avalanche netminder is 7-0 with a 1.74 goals-against average and .940 save percentage.  Varlamov has only allowed 11 goals on 183 shots over the course of 380 minutes. 

The gold-medla game between Russia and Slovakia will take place tomorrow (Sunday) in Helsinki at 11:30 a.m. MT.

Slovakia (4) vs. Canada (3)

Michal Handzus scored the eventual game-winning goal with only 2:28 remaining in a 3-3 tie, giving Slovakia a 4-3 victory over Canada. 

The goal came on a five-minute power play after Canada's Ryan Getzlaf earned a five-minute major/game misconduct for kneeing Juraj Mikus. 

Ryan O'Reilly went scoreless for Canada, but led the game with 13 (of 20) faceoff wins.  

O'Reilly finished the World Championships with four points (2g/2a), nine shots and a +3 rating in seven games for Team Canada, and averaged 14:02 TOI...won 77-of-124 faceoffs (62.1%).

Canada is going home after losing in the World Championship quarter-finals for the third consecutive year.

Slovakia will face the Czech Republic in the semis on Saturday.

Russia (5) vs. Norway (2)

Semyon Varlamov stopped 19-of-21 shots in a 5-2 victory over Norway, improving Russia's record to 6-0 in its last six quarter-final World Championship games.

Varly is 6-0 in six appearances, including one shutout.  The 24-year-old has allowed only nine goals on 152 shots (320 minutes, 1.69 goals-against average, .941 save percentage). 

Russia will take on Finland in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Finland (3) vs. USA (2)

Jesse Joensuu scored the game-winning goal (his second of the game) with eight seconds remaining in regulation to give Finland a dramatic 3-2 victory over Team USA in front of a raucous crowd in Helsinki.

The back-and-forth game saw Team USA tie it at one apiece, then take a 2-1 lead in the third, but it was Finland who tied it with under seven minutes remaining and netted the eventual game winner with eight seconds remaining in the third period.

Jimmy Howard made 28-of-31 saves for Team USA. 

Paul Stastny was named Team USA's top forward of the World Championship, finishing with nine points (3g/6a) in eight games, and also won 91-of-142 faceoffs (64%). 

Finland will take on Russia in the semi-finals on Saturday. 

Czech Republic (4) vs. Sweden (3)

Milan Michalek capped off yet another dramatic quarter-finals game, this time giving the Czech Republic a 4-3 win over Sweden.  

Michalek's goal, his second of the World Championship, was scored with 31 seconds remaining in regulation.  

The earlier game between Team USA and Finland saw the Finns net the game-winner with only eight seconds remaining in the third period.

Gabriel Landeskog (Sweden) earned an assist in the loss, giving the 19-year-old his fifth point of the tournament.

Landeskog concluded his first World Championship with five points (1g/4a), a +3 rating and 24 shots in eight games. 

The Czech Republic will travel to Helsinki to take on Slovakia in the semis on Saturday.

Canada (5) vs. Belarus (1)

Ryan O'Reilly had a statement game after missing the previous match due to injury. The Avalanche center led the way with two goals in a 5-1 victory over Belarus, giving Team Canada first place in Group A of the preliminary round.

Canada will take on the fourth seed in Group A (winner of the Slovakia vs. France game to be held later today).

O'Reilly has four points (2g/2a), has won 64-of-104 faceoffs (61.5%) and is +2 in six games for Team Canada, averaging 14:16 TOI.

USA (5) vs. Switzerland (2)

Paul Stastny put Team USA on his shoulders in its final round-robin game, earning three points (1g/2a) in a 5-2 victory over Switzerland.  

The win penciled in a rematch between themselves and Finland, who the Americans shutout 5-0 on Sunday. Had the Americans lost, they would've had to face Canada in the quarter-finals.

In addition to his game-high three points, Stastny dominated in the faceoff dot, winning 12-of-14 draws (85.7%) and finished with a +2 rating. 

Collectively, Stastny has accumulated nine points (3g/6a) in seven round-robin games for Team USA, finishing as the team's second-leading point producer.

Stastny has also won 83-of-125 faceoffs (66.4%) in those game. 

Team USA's rematch against Finland will take place on Thursday, May 17.

Sweden (4) vs. Latvia (0)

Sweden completed round-robin play with a 4-0 victory over Latvia today, and will face the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

Gabriel Landeskog, who went scoreless in the game, appeared in all preliminary games for Sweden, earning four points (1g/3a), and finished +3 with 22 shots.  

Landeskog was also Sweden's Player of the Game in its 4-0 victory over Italy on May 12.  Landeskog finished the game with two points (1g/1a) and a +2 rating.

Russia (4) vs. Italy (0)

Russia finished its round-robin undefeated after posting a 4-0 victory over Italy on Monday.  

It was Russia's second consecutive shutout victory (2-0 victory over the Czech Republic on Sunday) and will face either Norway or the Czech Republic in Thursday's quarter-finals. 

Goaltender Semyon Varlamov played the first 20 minutes in Russia's 4-0 victory over Italy, stopping all eight shots before being replaced by Mikhail Biryukov.

USA (5) vs. Finland (0)

After Kazakhstan took them to the brink in its previous game, Team USA did work on Finland, putting five on the board in a shutout victory.

Max Pacioretty (1g/1a), Cam Atkinson (0g/2a), Chris Butler (1g/1a) and Jimmy Howard (18 saves) led the way for Team USA.

Paul Stastny went scoreless, but had two shots, won 12 (of 26) faceoffs and finished +1 in 18:31 TOI.

Stastny has six points (2g/4a), has won 71-of-111 faceoffs (64%) and is +4 in six games for Team USA.

The Americans will play their final Group H preliminary-round game against Switzlerland on Tuesday, May 15. The game will be broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network at 11:15 a.m. MT.

Russia (2) vs. Czech Republic (0)

Evgeni Malkin scored his seventh goal of the World Championship and netminder Konstantin Barulin made 30 saves in Russia's 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic. 

Russia concludes its round-robin play against Italy on Monday, May 14.

Semyon Varlamov
did not play in today's game.

Canada (8) vs. Kazakhstan (0)

Kazakhstan, the team that took Team USA to overtime on Friday, proved no match for Canada who got five goals in the third period in an eventual 8-0 victory.

The win qualified Canada for a quarter-finals matchup next Tuesday. 

Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf and Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith led the way for Canada, each tallying three assists while Edmonton Oilers goaltender Devan Dubynk stopped all 24 shots.

Ryan O'Reilly did not play in today's game.

Canada's next game is on Tuesday, May 15, vs. Belarus.

Sweden (4) vs. Italy (0)

Gabriel Landeskog scored his first-ever World Championship goal and earned an assist in today's 4-0 victory over Italy.

Landeskog also had four shots-on-goal and was +2 in 18:18 TOI.  The win gave Sweden a berth in the quarter-finals.

The 19-year-old has four points (1g/3a), is +3, and has registered 17 shots in six games for Sweden, averaging 16:24 TOI.

Sweden takes on Latvia on Tuesday, May 15.

USA (3) vs. Kazakhstan (2) OT

Despite giving up the tying goal with under five minutes remaining in regulation, Team USA hung on for a 3-2 overtime victory over Kazakhstan.  Team USA outshot Kazakhstan 50-19.

Paul Stastny earned a helper on Justin Faulk's overtime goal, giving the Avs center his sixth point (2g/4a) in his fifth game in the World Championship.

In addition to his six points, Stastny has won 59-of-85 faceoffs (69.4%) and is +3 through five games. 

Team USA takes on Finland on Sunday, May 13.

Canada (5) vs. Finland (3)

Ryan O'Reilly earned an assist and won 12-of-16 faceoffs (75%) in a 5-3 victory for Team Canada. 

O'Reilly has two points (both assists) and is +1 in five games for Team Canada, averaging 14:24 TOI.

Canada's next game is Saturday, May 12, vs. Kazakhstan.

Russia (7) vs. Sweden (3)

Avalanche teammates Semyon Varlamov (Russia) and Gabriel Landeskog (Sweden) faced each other for the first time in the World Championship. 

Varlamov stopped 43-of-46 shots in the 7-3 victory over Sweden, his fourth win in four starts for Russia (5-0). 

The netminder has stopped 116-of-123 shots in his four appearances, going 4-0 with a 1.75 goals-against-average and .943 save percentage. 

Gabriel Landeskog went scoreless in Sweden's 7-3 loss to Russia, finishing with four shots-on-goal in 19:39 TOI.

Landeskog has two points (both assists), 13 shots and six penalty minutes in five games for Sweden, averaging 16:01 TOI. 

Russia will look to improve to 6-0 when they face the Czech Republic on Sunday, May 13.  

Sweden takes on Italy tomorrow (May 12), in the second of back-to-backs.

USA (5) vs. Belarus (3)

Paul Stastny scored his second goal (fifth point) and won 9-of-13 faceoffs (69.2%), helping Team USA earn a 5-3 victory over Belarus.  

Stastny has five points (2g/3a), has won 48-of-69 faceoffs (69.6%) and is +2 in four games. 

Team USA is 2-1-0-1 in the World Championship and will face Kazakhstan tomorrow at 7:15 a.m. MT on the NBC Sports Network. 

Russia (3) vs. Denmark (1)

Russia improved to 4-0 in the World Championship and will take on Sweden tomorrow, May 11.

Semyon Varlamov did not play in today's game against Denmark.

Canada (3) vs. Switzerland (2)

Ryan O'Reilly led Team Canada with 12 faceoff wins in a 3-2 victory over Switzerland. 

O'Reilly went 12-for-16 (75%) in 14:18 TOI.

The 21-year-old has one point (assist) and seven shots-on-goal in four games...averaging 14:01 TOI.

Canada will battle Finland on Friday, May 11.

Sweden (5) vs. Germany (2)

Gabriel Landeskog earned his second point in as many games (both assists) in a 5-2 victory over Germany, improving Sweden's record to 4-0. 

Landeskog finished the game with four shots-on-goal and a +1 rating in 16:01 TOI...the 19-year-old has two points in four games with Sweden. 

Landeskog will face his teammate Semyon Varlamov (Russia) on Friday, May 11.

Russia (2) vs. Germany (0)

Semyon Varlamov stopped all 30 shots in a 2-0 shutout victory over Germany, improving Russia's record to 3-0.

Varly has started each of Russia's three games, going 3-0 with a .948 save percentage and 1.33 goals-against average...has stopped 73-of-77 shots thus far. 

Russia looks to keeps its undefeated streak alive on Thursday, May 10, vs. Denmark.

Canada (7) vs. France (2)

Ryan O'Reilly went scoreless in 11:15 TOI...finished second on the team with 10 faceoff wins (10-for-14, 71%).

Canada will face Switzerland on Wednesday, May 9.

Slovakia (4) vs. USA (2)

Paul Stastny netted his first goal of the tournament in a 4-2 loss to Slovakia.  

In addition to his goal, Stastny won 12-of-18 faceoffs (66.6%) in 18:09 TOI...his 12 faceoffs led all players. 

Through three games, Stastny has four points (1g/3a) and has won 39-of-56 faceoffs (69.6%). 

Stastny currently ranks tied for second on Team USA in points (also J. Faulk) and his 27 faceoff wins rank second among all World Championship skaters. 

Team USA will not play again until Thursday, May 10, vs. Belarus.

Sweden (6) vs. Denmark (4)

Gabriel Landeskog earned his first point of the World Championship (assist) in a 6-4 victory over Denmark, preserving Sweden's winning streak (3-0).

Landeskog finished the game with three shots and his +2 rating was tied for the game high.

Sweden will take on Germany on Wednesday, May 9.

Semyon Varlamov won for the second time in consecutive starts, stopping 19-of-21 shots in a 4-2 victory over Norway.

Varlamov has stopped 43-of-47 shots (.915 Sv%, 2.00 GAA).

Russia will take on Germany on Tuesday, May 8.

Semyon Varlamov turned aside 24-of-26 shots, helping Russia earn a 5-2 victory over Latvia.

The 24-year-old netminder is making his second at the World Championships (2010 was the other).

Russia will face Norway on Sunday, May 6.

USA (5) vs. Canada (4) OT

Teammates Paul Stastny (USA) and Ryan O'Reilly (Canada) faced each other for the first time in this year's World Championship.

Stastny went scoreless in 18:52 TOI...won 15-of-21 faceoffs (71%)...his 15 faceoffs were tied for the game high (also O'Reilly).

Stastny has won 27-of-38 faceoffs (71%) in Team USA's first two games.

Ryan O'Reilly went scoreless in the overtime loss...won 15-of-28 (54%) faceoffs in 15:54 TOI...led all forwards with 28 shifts.

O'Reilly has won 23-of-44 faceoffs (52%) in Canada's first two games.

Team USA will face Slovakia on Monday, May 7.

Canada will battle France on Monday, May 7.

Sweden (4) vs. Czech Republic (1)

Gabriel Landeskog went scoreless in a 4-1 win over the Czech Republic earlier today.

The forward registered one shot in 15:17 TOI.

Sweden's next match is against Denmark on Monday, May 7.

Paul Stastny
earned three assists, a +2 rating, and won a game-high 12 (of 17) faceoffs in Team USA’s 7-2 victory over France.

His three points were tied for the game-high (also M. Pacioretty, J. Faulk) and his 12 faceoff wins were led all players.

Team USA's next matchup is on Saturday, May 5, against Team Canada at 10:00 a.m. MT. The game will be shown on the NBC Sports Network at 8:30 p.m. MT.

Canada (3) vs. Slovakia (2)

Ryan O'Reilly earned an assist in Canada's 3-2 victory over Slovakia.  

Shared the game-high in shots-on-goal (four) with teammate John Tavares. 

Went 8-for-16 (50%) in faceoffs and finished a +1 in 13:40 TOI.

Team Canada will square off against Team USA on Saturday, May 5.

Sweden (3) vs. Norway (1)

Gabriel Landeskog went scoreless in 15:48 TOI...won his lone faceoff attempt and finished with one shot-on-goal.
