Hejduk's Late Goal Named Top Play

by Colorado Avalanche / Colorado Avalanche
Veteran forward Milan Hejduk earned "Play of the Week" honors for his late goal against the New York Islanders.

Hejduk's tally (49.44%) beat out a Matt Duchene goal against Detroit (40.49%) and a Peter Budaj save on Red Wings' forward Henrik Zetterberg (10.07%).

The play now automatically qualifies for Colorado’s year-end “Play of the Year” bracket-style tournament – to be determined by Avalanche fans. Be sure to check back each Friday during the season, as three new choices for the Avalanche’s “Play of the Week” will be posted for you to vote upon.

Hejduk’s Late Tally – 1/8 vs. NY Islanders
Time was winding down in regulation and the Avs were trailing the Islanders by a goal when Milan Hejduk found a rebound and used a backhander to beat New York netminder Kevin Poulin with four seconds left. He became the first Av to score a tying goal that late in regulation since Joe Sakic scored with one second left to force OT on Feb. 21, 1997 at Edmonton.
