Flyers to Visit The Mile High City

by Aaron Lopez / Colorado Avalanche
The Philadelphia Flyers haven’t made a trip to Denver since Dec. 27, 2003. That will change on Friday night, as the Avalanche will host Philadelphia at 7:00 p.m. A limited number of tickets are still available for the contest.

Colorado and Philadelphia did not play last year and thus are facing off for the first time since Jan. 14, 2006 at the Wachovia Center, which resulted in a 4-3 overtime victory for the Avalanche.

Through Wednesday’s games, Philadelphia sits in a three-way tie for first place in the Atlantic Division with a 15-9-2 record (32 points). The Flyers are led offensively by assistant captain Mike Richards (14g/17a) and free agent signing Daniel Briere (12g/18a). Martin Biron has seen the bulk of the action between the pipes for Philadelphia and has posted a 12-7-2 record with a 2.63 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.

Notes: Jose Theodore will start in goal for the Avalanche against the Flyers…The Avs are 7-3-0 in their last 10 home game and 10-3-0 overall at Pepsi Center this season…The Avalanche is one of only three NHL clubs – Ottawa and Buffalo being the others – that have not allowed a shorthanded goal this season…Paul Stastny leads the team in goals (11), assists (22) and points (33) and is also tied with Kurt Sauer for the team lead in plus/minus rating (+11).
