The Lake Erie Monsters had a record-setting night on Saturday (Jan. 26) in a 7-2 victory over the Rochester Americans. The Monsters set franchise records for most goals in a game, largest margin of victory, goals in a period (5) and most combined points (19) by the most players to record a point (13) in the team’s history.
Chris Stewart (2g/1a) and T.J. Hensick (1g/2a) led the way with three-point performances, while Michael Wall stopped 25-of-27 shots to earn the victory.

The Monsters also topped the Americans by a 4-3 count in a shootout the previous night after rallying back from a 3-0 first-period deficit. Stewart and newcomer Philippe Dupuis notched a goal and an assist apiece and Tyler Weiman made 25 stops.
Lake Erie totaled a pair of points in its two contests earlier in the week, dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to Syracuse on Tuesday and losing by a 3-2 score in a shootout against Hamilton on Wednesday.

-University of Michigan goaltender Billy Sauer put up a pair of solid performances over the weekend, but the Wolverines came away with only one point against arch-rival Michigan State University. Sauer stopped 27-of-28 shots on Friday in Michigan’s 1-0 loss and followed it up with a 32-save performance in a 2-2 tie during the rematch on Saturday. Sauer ranks first nationally in save percentage (.937) and second in goals-against average (1.68).
-Miami (Ohio) University’s Justin Mercier
notched a goal on both Friday and Saturday in the RedHawks’ weekend sweep of the University of Alaska, giving him 20 tallies on the season. Mercier, who ranks sixth in the nation in goals-per-game (0.71), joined teammate Ryan Jones and Michigan’s Kevin Porter
as the only 20-goal scorers in the nation.
-Boston University freshman and Colorado’s 2007 first-round selection Kevin Shattenkirk totaled three assists over the weekend against the University of New Hampshire. Shattenkirk’s 12 points (3g/9a) ranks second among Terrier defensemen. Fellow freshman Colby Cohen chipped in with an assist on Saturday to move his season total to eight points (1g/7a).
-University of Minnesota sophomore Mike Carman scored his second goal of the season in the Gophers’ 2-2 tie with the University of Wisconsin on Saturday. Gopher captain Derek Peltier added his 10th assist of the season in the contest.OHL
-Nigel Williams recorded his ninth goal of the season – and fourth since being traded to Belleville – in the Bulls’ 5-4 win over the Oshawa Generals on Wednesday. Through 47 games, the defenseman has totaled 33 points (9g/24a).WHL
-T.J. Galiardi notched two goals on Friday in Calgary’s 6-0 win over the Portland Winter Hawks and added another tally in Sunday’s 9-2 victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings. Galiardi ranks second among WHL rookies with 47 points (13g/34a) through 52 games while carrying a +20 rating.CHL
-Ian Keserich has been strong in net since joining the Mississippi RiverKings earlier this month. In three games with his new team, Keserich has posted a 3-0 record with a 1.33 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage.USHL
-Paul Carey had a pair of assists on Friday as the Indiana Ice topped the Des Moines Buccaneers by a 5-4 count. Carey ranks third on Indiana’s scoring chart with 39 points (20g/19a) in 36 games. He will participate in the USHL Prospects/All-Star Game on Tuesday (Jan. 29th) in Green Bay, Wis.
-Cedar Rapids netminder Kent Patterson
led his squad to a 4-1 win over Sioux City on Friday by stopping 28-of-29 shots. With the victory, Patterson improved his record to 4-2 with a 2.88 goals-against average.
