The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that it has recalled goaltender Tyler Weiman from Lake Erie, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate.
Weiman, 23, has appeared in 20 contests for the Monsters this season, posting an 8-11-1 record while leading the club’s goaltenders in goals against average (2.84) and save percentage (.917) with two shutouts.
The 5-11, 180-pound netminder was the club’s sixth selection (164th overall) in the 2002 Entry Draft. Weiman made his NHL debut with the Avalanche in Nashville on October 4, 2007 in relief of goaltender Peter Budaj. Last season he led Albany (AHL) to its first playoff berth in seven years, posting a 27-22-3 record in 54 appearances for the River Rats.
In a related move, the Avalanche reassigned defenseman Johnny Boychuk to Lake Erie. The club also activated defenseman Kurt Sauer from the injured list while placing defenseman Kyle Cumiskey on the IR retroactive to January 9.
