The Colorado Avalanche announced today it will open the 2015-16 campaign on Thursday, Oct. 8, at home against the Minnesota Wild.
This marks the second consecutive year that Colorado opens the new season against Minnesota, as the clubs also met in a home-and-home series to begin the 2014-15 season. The last opponent to meet the Avalanche in back-to-back openers was the Dallas Stars in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
Overall, this is the second time the Avs will play their first home game against the Wild, and the third time they have opened the season against Minnesota (also in 2012-13).
The date of one other regular season game for the Avalanche was announced previously. Colorado's outdoor game against the Detroit Red Wings in the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series will take place on Feb. 27 at Coors Field in Denver.
The full 2015-16 schedule is expected to be released on Thursday by the league.
