The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has recalled defenseman Derek Peltier (pronounced Pell-TEER) from the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League. He will join the Avalanche in Minnesota for tonight’s game against the Wild (6:00 p.m. MT, Altitude TV).
Peltier, 24, leads all Lake Erie defensemen in scoring with 19 points (2g/17a) in 63 games. He ranks sixth overall on the team in points, and is tied for third in assists.
Colorado’s fifth selection (sixth round, 184th overall) in the 2004 Entry Draft, Peltier signed an entry-level contract with the Avalanche on June 5, 2008. The Plymouth, Minn., native played four seasons at the University of Minnesota (WCHA), where he served as the Gophers’ team captain as a senior in 2007-08.
