Stewart Scores First Of Season – 10/7 vs. Chicago
Forward Chris Stewart netted the Avalanche’s first goal of the 2010-11 campaign in fashion. After Chicago’s rookie defenseman Nick Leddy misplayed a puck at the blue line, Stewart was the first player to the loose puck and raced up-ice on a 2-on-1 with Kyle Cumiskey. Niklas Hjalmarsson, the lone defender back for Chicago, dove in an effort to stop Stewart, but the forward skated around him and beat Marty Turco with a wrister. Wilson Lays Out Zherdev – 10/11 vs. Philadelphia
Defenseman Ryan Wilson
gained a reputation for delivering big hits during his rookie campaign. It only took him two games to give out his first crushing blow of the 2010-11 season. As Flyers forward Nikolay Zherdev skated up the left wing out of his defensive zone, Wilson lined him up for a huge body check. Jones’ Spinning Backhand – 10/12 @ DetroitDavid Jones
scored his second goal of the game on this creative move. Matt Duchene
carried the puck into the offensive zone and dropped a pass to Brandon Yip at the right point. Yip then made a feed into the slot to Jones, who corralled the pass, spun to his right and put a low backhander past Jimmy Howard.
