Avalanche Play Of The Week: Dec. 3-9

by Colorado Avalanche / Colorado Avalanche is again asking for your help in determining the Avalanche's "Play of the Week" each week during the regular season. At the end of the year, a bracket-style tournament will be held to determine, via fan voting, the Avalanche's "Play of the Year."

The nominees this week include a defensive play by John-Michael Liles, a tic-tac-toe passing play that resulted in a Paul Stastny goal and a Stastny feed to Liles.

Voting ends on Monday, Dec. 13 at 3:00 p.m. MT, so be sure to cast your ballot today!

Liles Plays Goalie – 12/3 @ Carolina
After initially losing his footing and ending up in the back of the Avalanche’s net, John-Michael Liles recovered in time to make a big stop on Carolina’s Eric Cole. Jay Harrison’s shot from the left point was tipped wide, but Cole recovered the puck and brought it around to the low left circle. Cole’s high shot was redirected off the arm of Liles, who was providing Craig Anderson with a helping hand in the crease.

Tic-Tac-Toe Passing – 12/4 @ Tampa Bay
Four of the five Avalanche players on the ice made nice passes that led to this tally. Paul Stastny started it with a stretch pass from his defensive blue line to Tomas Fleischmann just outside the offensive zone. Fleischmann turned and shot a feed over to Milan Hejduk, who quickly shoveled it to Kevin Shattenkirk. The rookie blueliner then one-touched the puck across the low slot to Stastny, who quickly deposited it past Dan Ellis for the goal.

Stastny Sets Up Liles – 12/7 @ Florida
After firing an unsuccessful attempt on net, David Jones followed the rebound to the halfwall, where he drew two defenders before chipping the puck to Paul Stastny in the right circle. Stastny took over from there, feeding a nice pass to a cutting John-Michael Liles for a quick one-timer.
