Avalanche Play of the Week: Dec.11-17

by - Official Site of the Colorado Avalanche / Colorado Avalanche is asking for your help in determining the Avalanche's "Play of the Week" each week during the regular season. At the end of the year, a bracket-style tournament will be held to determine, via fan voting, the Avalanche's "Play of the Year."

Goals by Wojtek Wolski and Chris Stewart and a save by Craig Anderson are this week's nominees.

Voting ends on Monday, Dec. 21 at 3:00 p.m. MT, so be sure to cast your ballot today!

Anderson Stops 2-on-0 – 12/11 vs. Tampa Bay
With the Lightning already leading 1-0, Brett Clark’s point shot was blocked by Steve Downie. The Tampa Bay forward corralled the puck and skated up the ice on a 2-on-0 breakaway, eventually feeding Vincent Lecavalier for the shot. However, Avalanche netminder Craig Anderson read the play perfectly, stopping Lecavalier’s attempt with his blocker.

Wolski Beats Bolts – 12/11 vs. Tampa Bay
Wojtek Wolski was called upon during the third round of a shootout against the Lightning and beat netminder Antero Niittymaki with a backhander high glove side for his first shootout tally of the season. After Craig Anderson stopped Alex Tanguay on the other end, Wolski’s goal stood up as the game-winner.

Stewart’s Give-And-Go – 12/13 vs. Calgary
After Wojtek Wolski had his shot stopped by Calgary goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff, the forward gathered the puck and sent a cross-ice feed to Chris Stewart just outside the goal crease. Stewart then made a quick pass to a cutting Paul Stastny, who flipped it right back. Stewart’s first shot was stopped, but he buried his own rebound for his seventh goal of the season.
