The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that it has activated forward Joe Sakic from the Injured Reserve list. He will be available to play in tonight’s game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Sakic, who underwent hernia surgery on Dec. 28, has missed the last 38 games, the most action he has ever missed during his NHL career. The Avalanche captain was originally placed on the IR list Dec. 11 (retroactive to Nov. 30). Prior to this injury, the 38-year old had played in 232 consecutive games.
Sakic has recorded 22 points (7g/15a) in 24 games this season. He has 617 goals and 994 assists for 1,611 points in 1,343 career games. He ranks eighth on the NHL’s all-time scoring list.
In a related move, the Avalanche reassigned forward T.J. Hensick to the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League.
