Avalanche Acquires Belle

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that it has acquired defenseman Shawn Belle from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenseman Kevin Montgomery.

Belle, 26, has recorded 20 points (3g/17a) in 39 games for the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League. He also appeared in five NHL contests with the Oilers this season (no points).

A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Belle was originally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the first round (30th overall) at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound blueliner has appeared in 16 career NHL games with the Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton, totaling one assist.

Belle will report to Colorado’s AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters.
