This week's subject is John-Michael Liles, who signed a four-year contract with the Avalanche on June 30, 2008. Liles led all Avalanche defensemen with 32 points (6g/26a) in 81 contests during the 2007-08 campaign.
Nov. 1 vs. Pittsburgh - Get It Started With the Avs trailing the Penguins by a 2-0 count, Liles started a Colorado rally by notching a power-play goal at 10:26 of the second period. The Avs went on to win by a 3-2 score
Nov. 9 @ Vancouver - Extra Time With the Avs trailing the Canucks 1-0, Liles scored on the power play 1:01 into the third period to send the game to an extra session
Dec. 9 vs. St. Louis - Take Two During a convincing 9-5 win over the Blues, Liles registered his first multi-point game of the season by earning a pair of power-play assists
Dec. 17 @ Los Angeles - Triple Digits The defenseman tallied two assists in the first period, including his 100th career helper, as the Avalanche pulled out a 4-2 win over the Kings in Los Angeles
Dec. 21 vs. NY Rangers - Pitching In Liles didn’t get on the scoreboard in the Avs’ 4-3 overtime win, but he still left his mark. The defenseman skated for 23:37 and posted a +3 rating with four shots on goal, two hits and a pair of blocked shots
Feb. 22 @ Phoenix - Lights Out Called upon during the 8th round of a marathon shootout against the Coyotes, Liles delivered. The shootout attempt was the first of the defenseman’s career
Feb. 24 @ Edmonton - Ice Time The Indianapolis, Ind., native logged a career-high 27:00 of ice time, marking the third straight game in which he skated over 25 minutes. Liles also totaled two shots and three blocks in the game
Feb. 26 @ Calgary - Getting Offensive Liles registered his third multi-point game of the season with a pair of assists to help the Avalanche earn a 3-2 victory in Calgary
March 4 vs. Vancouver - Out of the Drought The defenseman snapped a 50-game goal drought (dating back to Nov. 9) in style, notching the game-winner at the 2:27 mark of the third period during Colorado’s 2-1 win over the Canucks
April 24 @ Detroit - Playoff Marker Liles notched his second career playoff goal during Game One of the Western Conference Semifinals with a slap shot at the 5:17 mark of the second period
