DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Jan. 4

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Paul Stastny, C, St. Louis Blues

DraftKings price: $4,800

Stastny will seek to match a season-high four-game point streak when the Blues host the Ottawa Senators on Monday. The veteran first-line center is always a threat to contribute fantasy points for DraftKings owners as he skates with Vladimir Tarasenko ($7,800) and Alex Steen ($7,100), the Blues' top two scorers, respectively. Rolling with Stastny against the Senators should prove a sound value pick as he has five points (one goal, four assists) and 16 shots on goal in six career games against Ottawa.

Matthews on record pace at 2016 World Juniors

Auston Matthews, who many project to be the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, is playing for Zurich in Switzerland's top professional league this season. Matthews currently is playing for the United States at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland. NHL.com will follow his journey leading to the NHL draft this season with a weekly update.

United States center Auston Matthews always has been coy about discussing what it would be like to be chosen No. 1 at the 2016 NHL Draft in Buffalo, N.Y.

His parents, Ema and Brian, are taking the same approach. NHL Network caught up with them in Helsinki, Finland, at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship.

"I don't think we think about the draft too much because it's so far away (June 24-25)," Brian Matthews said. "We're kind of just focused right here in the moment and with USA Hockey. Whatever happens at the draft happens. We'll accept whatever comes of it."

With the way Matthews has been playing during the WJC, it wouldn't surprise anyone if he were the top pick.

At the Rink: Senators at Blackhawks

CHICAGO -- Goalie Craig Anderson will start for the Ottawa Senators against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Sunday (7 p.m.; NHLN-US, TVAS, SN, CSN-CH).

It will be the 12th career start against the Blackhawks for Anderson, who grew up in the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge, Ill., and was drafted by the Blackhawks with the 73rd pick in the 2001 NHL Draft. Anderson is 6-2-3 with a 3.25 goals-against average and .912 save percentage in 11 career starts against Chicago.

"The fact he's a [heck] of an NHL goalie is the biggest factor going into it," Senators coach Dave Cameron said after the morning skate Sunday.

Anderson allowed seven goals on 37 shots in his previous start, a 7-3 loss at the Boston Bruins on Dec. 29.

At the Rink: Stars at Islanders

NEW YORK -- Dallas Stars forward Valeri Nichushkin will return to the lineup when they play the New York Islanders at Barclays Center on Sunday (5 p.m. ET; FS-SW, MSG).

Nichushkin missed a 3-2 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday because of a lower-body injury. He has four goals and 13 points in 37 games this season.

"Val will go back in today," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "We have a couple players who are a little banged up so we have a couple of decisions to make maybe before warmups but possibly after warmups."

At the Rink: Jets at Ducks

ANAHEIM -- The Winnipeg Jets will have center Mark Scheifele back in the lineup for their game against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Sunday (9 p.m. ET; TSN3, PRIME, FS-SD)

The Jets activated Scheifele a few hours before game time and sent forward Matt Halischuk to the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League. Scheifele missed the Jets' past three games because of a concussion. He has 12 goals and 10 assists in 34 games this season.

It's the first game between the teams since the Ducks swept the Jets in the Western Conference First Round of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Each team is well behind its pace of a year ago, for different reasons

Jussi Jokinen, C, Florida Panthers

DraftKings price: $4,700

Jokinen ended a five-game scoring drought with an assist in a 3-0 win against the New York Rangers on Saturday. The second-line forward scored in two straight games each time he broke two previous four-game cold streaks this season so that pattern should give DraftKings owners confidence in Jokinen registering a point when the Panthers host the Minnesota Wild on Sunday. Jokinen has been great against Minnesota in his career with 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) in 21 games.

Coach's Challenge: MIN @ TBL - 12:22 of the Third Period

At 12:22 of the third period in the Wild/Lightning game, Tampa Bay requested a Coach’s Challenge to review whether Zach Parise interfered with Tampa Bay goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy before the puck crossed the goal line.

The Referee determined that Parise interfered with Vasilevskiy before the puck crossed the goal line. According to Rule 78.7, “The standard for overturning the call in the event of a ‘GOAL’ call on the ice is that the Referee, after reviewing any and all available replays and consulting with the Toronto Video Room, determines that the goal should have been disallowed due to ‘Interference on the Goalkeeper,’ as described in Rules 69.1, 69.3 and 69.4.”

Therefore the original call is overturned – no goal Minnesota Wild.

Since the Coach’s Challenge resulted in the original call being overturned, the Tampa Bay Lightning retain their time-out.

Coach's Challenge: WSH @ CBJ - 2:45 of the Second Period

At 2:45 of the second period in the Capitals/Blue Jackets game, Washington requested a Coach’s Challenge to review whether Columbus was off-side prior to William Karlsson's goal.

After reviewing all available replays and consulting with NHL Hockey Operations staff, the Linesman determined that Columbus forward Cam Atkinson was off-side prior to the goal. According to Rule 78.7, “The standard for overturning the call in the event of a ‘GOAL’ call on the ice is that the Linesman, after reviewing any and all available replays and consulting with the Toronto Video Room, determines that one or more Players on the attacking team preceded the puck into the attacking zone prior to the goal being scored and that, as a result, the play should have been stopped for an “Off-side” infraction; where this standard is met, the goal will be disallowed.”

Therefore the original call is overturned – no goal Columbus Blue Jackets.

At the Rink: Jets at Sharks

SAN JOSE -- The San Jose Sharks will try to win back-to-back home games for the first time this season on Saturday when they face the Winnipeg Jets (10 p.m. ET; SN, CSN-CA), who have lost six straight and 12 of their past 13 on the road.

The Sharks are coming off a 4-2 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday before a sellout crowd at SAP Center. Despite the win, San Jose still has a League-worst home record of 5-10-0,

"We can't just win one and go back to losing at home," forward Tommy Wingels said after San Jose's morning skate at Sharks Ice. "It's about building streaks in this League so we've got to get back to winning four, five, six in a row at home. Tonight can put us on that path."
