DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Jan. 4

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.

Paul Stastny
, C, St. Louis Blues

DraftKings price: $4,800

Stastny will seek to match a season-high four-game point streak when the Blues host the Ottawa Senators on Monday. The veteran first-line center is always a threat to contribute fantasy points for DraftKings owners as he skates with Vladimir Tarasenko ($7,800) and Alex Steen ($7,100), the Blues' top two scorers, respectively. Rolling with Stastny against the Senators should prove a sound value pick as he has five points (one goal, four assists) and 16 shots on goal in six career games against Ottawa.

Adam Henrique, W, New Jersey Devils

DraftKings price: $4,900

Henrique is part of a well-balanced scoring attack in New Jersey and continues to provide great value in DraftKings lineups. The Devils will try to extend their winning streak to four when the Detroit Red Wings visit Monday, so now is a great time to grab some of their key players to help put your fantasy teams over the top. Henrique has done well against Detroit in his career with five points (three goals, two assists) and 12 SOG in seven games. The second-line forward has also been very good following one day of rest with 18 points (10 goals, eight assists), 13 blocked shots and 31 SOG in 18 games this season.

Erik Johnson, D, Colorado Avalanche

DraftKings price: $5,400

Johnson has been heating up recently with six points (two goals, four assists) in the past six games and leads Avalanche defensemen with seven goals and 98 SOG through 39 games. The first-unit defenseman at regular strength and on the power play should have a good game at home against the Los Angeles Kings considering Johnson has six of his seven total goals through 18 home games.

Cory Schneider, G, New Jersey Devils

DraftKings price: $7,900

Playing daily fantasy sports should be fun and basing a goaltender pick off the fact it's Cory Schneider bobblehead night at Prudential Center is good enough reason to go with the Devils goalie against the Red Wings. But if statistics are more important than stadium giveaways, Schneider is still a wise choice considering a 3-1-1 record and 1.79 goals-against average in his past five starts. Schneider will also try for a third consecutive win against Detroit after establishing a 2.43 GAA in two previous victories this season.
